Ada Yonath
2009 Nobel Prize winner in chemistry, academician of the National Academy of Sciences, director of Zimmerman Center for Biomolecular Structure and Assembly, Weizmann Institute of Science, Israel

Ms. Ada Yonath, a leading Israeli crystallographer. She wasawarded The Nobel Prize in Chemistry 2009 and has madeoutstanding contributions to the research of ribosome structureand function. She is the current Director of the Helen and MiltonA. Kimmelman Center for Biomolecular Structure and Assemblyof the Weizmann Institute of Science, Israel. Ms. Yonath is amember of the United States National Academy of Sciences; theAmerican Academy of Arts and Sciences; the Israel Academy ofSciences and Humanities; the European Academy of Sciencesand Art; the German Academy of Sciences; the Korean AcademyforScienceandTechnology;andtheEuropeanMolecularBiology Organization.Inaddition toherlongtenureattheWeizmann Institute ofScience, Ms. Yonath stayed successively as a visiting scholar atthe School of Dentistry, University of Alabama; the DepartmentofBiophysics,UniversityofChicago;andtheMax PlanckSociety Department for Molecular Genetics in Berlin, Germany.She served as head of the Max Planck Institute from 1986 to 2004.
