John Hopcroft is the emeritus professor at Cornell University and VisitingChair Professor at Peking University. He is a foreign member of theChinese Academy of Sciences; a member of the National Academy ofSciences (NAS), the National Academy of Engineering (NAE), and afellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences (AAAS).Hopcroft's research centers on theoretical aspects of computing. He washonoredwiththeA.M.TuringAwardin1986“forfundamentalachievements in the design and analysis of algorithms and data structures”.

In2016, he received the Chinese Government Friendship Award, thehighest honor awarded by the Chinese government to foreign experts.
