Heping Xie is an expert in mechanics and energy engineering, and academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering. The former president of Sichuan University, He is currently a distinguished professor of Shenzhen University, Dean of the Institute of Deep Science and Green Energy, member of the academic degree committee of the State Council, director of science and technology commission of Ministry of Education, and the convener of the discipline appraisal group of the academic degree committee of the State Council. He has presided over a number of national programs, such as National Program on Key Basic Research Project (973 Program), ""Innovative Research Group"" of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, the national key R & D Program of China, and so on. He has won 4 national awards such as the second class prize of the National Natural Science Award. He was awarded an honorary doctorate by Clausthal University of Technology in Germany, Hong Kong Polytechnic University and the University of Nottingham in the United Kingdom. He was awarded the academic title of "St Edmund Fellow of Oxford University"
